Aim

A bespoke tool to open a specific size of washer bottle

Requirements

• Specific – the tool must fit lid of the washer bottle
• Robust – the tool must withstand repeated use
• Convenient – the must be easy to use

Results

Measurements of the washer bottle were taken and prototypes were rapidly produced. Initially these featured a hinge made from PLA, but following feedback from the technicians a simplified, more robust design was created. This utilises a TPU insert that functions both as a knurled grip and as a compliant mechanism hinge. Additionally, as this insert is friction fit into the handles (using dovetails) it can be interchanged should it need replacing or a different internal diameter is required.
